Debunk, "God won't give you more than you can handle"
Alright people, we are getting down to the nitty gritty today. This post might rub some people the wrong way and it's also going to throwout a piece of advice MANY people recommend during a hard time. This phrase is:
This phrase used to be my mantra in life. However, since my relationship with the Lord has developed and matured I can now assure you this is probably the worst advice anyone could ever give you.
I've been wanting to write this blog post for awhile now, but whenever I write a blog post, relating to being a Jesus follower, I want the post to be written by God's breath not my own.
Well y'all...He has huffed and puffed and these words are straight from His lungs. Let's go!
This phrase implies that you don't need anything to help you. That if you just keep on pushing you'll be just fine. FALSE, oh my, this is so false and honestly a lie from the devil himself. He wants you to believe that you can do it on your own.
Let's start debunking. If God didn't give you more than you can handle then Jesus Christ wouldn't be a thing. There would've been no need for God to send His ONLY son to be sacrificed for YOUR sins. If you could've handled your sin yourself then we wouldn't need Jesus. Let me tell ya friends: WE DESPERATELY NEED JESUS.
16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
Emphasis on, "Who were too strong for me." David said it right here, God had to rescue me because my enemy was too much. My enemy was too powerful. God allowed something stronger than me to oppose me.
Friends, I'm not debunking this advice because I want life to be harder for you. I'm debunking it because you're making it harder on yourself and you've got the wrong idea of our Father.
God DOES give you things that are way above your pay grade. Not because He wants to watch you suffer, but because He wants you to surrender it to Him. The Lord desires for us to say, "Father I can't bear this burden. I can't handle this situation. I can't provide for my family. I surrender it to you, O Lord my strength."
We are humans, yes we are God's greatest creation, but we are not God. Hallelujah!! God will give us more than we can handle because he desires surrender from us.
I can tell you right now that my parents love me so much that don't want me to carry a burden by myself. Imagine that love times the amount of freckles on my skin multiplied by the stars in the sky (still not scratching the surface to the number I'm going for), but that's how much God loves us and desires for us to LET IT GO and give it to Him.
Do me a favor friends. Stop saying, "Don't worry friend, God won't give you more than you can handle." and instead say, "You're going through a deep and dark valley in your life right now, but your shepherd is there and He's waiting for you to surrender it to him, so he can get to work."
