Day 1 Charleston Trip

Updated: Aug 14, 2020

Hungry girls. I'm convinced that at the beginning and end of every road trip there must be a meal, hangry girls are not pretty girls. Wise word of advice to every man out there: Feed your lady or she will feed on you.

We decided on Poe's Tavern. Poe's is located on Sullivan's Island. There is a little strip of restaurants from pizza to tex mex to bbq to Poe's hungry tummies will be filled.

My order: Spiced Yellowfin Tuna tacos

-I ordered mine medium rare

-My first experience with fish tacos and I loved them

-Definitely have a little kick to 'em

-Fun fact: I love fries and they had some darn good fries.

Baileys order: Pit & Pendulum

-Again, great fries

-Bay eats everything extremely plain, so she held off all the condiments

-She really enjoyed her bacon and cheddar cheese burger though

My mom's order: Buffalo Shrimp tacos

-Too spicy for her liking

-Didn't give her a lot of shrimp either

-She liked the shrimp, but probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like spicy foods

Appetizer: Chips and Queso

-Bailey and my mom really liked the queso

-It was thick and they gave you a generous portion of queso.

Freckled Standard:

Location: 4 out of 5 freckles

-Great location, not far from the beach. Not a lot of parking

-I love the beachy town feel

Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 freckles

-Okay, it is named after Edgar Allen Poe, so it is a dark restaurant for sure. Also extremely cramped.

Food: 4 out of 5 freckles.

-People rave about this place and I think that might have hurt my opinion on the food.

-Good food, but not too die for like others have said. However, I would recommend

Service: 3 out of 5 freckles.

-Not particularly friendly

-We got our appetizer 5 minutes before our meal came out

Price: 4 out of 5 freckles.

-Higher prices, but it's what you'd except from a restaurant right near the beach

-Doesn't break the bank, but doesn't count as a cheap eat

After our bellies were full and we needed to walk some of those fries off. We parked on the side of the road in Isle of Palms. It was overcast and little chilly or else we would have stripped down to our swimsuits.

Alright, people, I'm not much of a shopper, but we did head over to the Mount Pleasant Towne Center. I really love this center because it has so much to offer. You pass it coming in and out of Isle of Palms from Charleston. Their website which I linked above lists out all the businesses, any sales and events coming up.

We shopped a little and headed into Charleston to drop off our bags and get some dinner! My parents have a time share with Blue Green Vacations and the Lodge Alley Inn in downtown Charleston is apart of that. We love staying at the Lodge Alley Inn because of its rich history , beautiful preservation of the structure and convenient location. The Lodge provides valet parking and the only time you actually need your car is if you're headed to the beach.

So, back to hungry girls. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but my sense of direction is...lacking. I wanted to try this restaurant called the Craftsmen tap house. However, for some reason google maps didn't want to take me there. After walking in a couple of circles we heard music from a restaurant called Tommy Condon's and we decided we'd eat there. Tommy's is an Irish pub if I have ever been in one. You're surrounded by dark wood and lots of beer. Tommy's hosts an open mic night every Monday and we walked right in the middle of it. Bailey and my mom were persisting I get up there and sing because anyone who performs gets 25% of their bill. I declined their requests and instead listened to people who actually deserved to be up there. We had a lot of fun listening to all the singers and it definitely made up for the lack of good cuisine.

My order: BBQ wings and fries

-They were fine

My mom's oder: Hawaiian wings and fried green tomatoes

-Didn't have good flavor on the wings

-The tomatoes weren't completely fried

Bailey's order: A salad

-Can't go wrong with a salad

Terrible quality photo but so Irish y'all!
