(Above is a wonderful over edited picture of the Friday Night Lights of High School with some of my all time favorite people)
“Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.” If you are a Netflix fanatic, a big Tim Riggins fan or just an all around Friday Night Lights supporter, then you’ve heard that phrase before. However to me, it was the phrase that popped into my head when thinking of a way to sum up 2016. Last year I wrote a piece summing up 2015 called the “Roses of 2015”, it was actually my very first blog post and to this day one of my most treasured writings. In efforts to create another “treasured” writing I am going to do my best to relive 2016.
Soooo why “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose”?
Great question. 2016 was an AH-HA year for me. During 2016 I experienced my second semester of college, thumb surgery, “moving on”, a concussion, and a coaching change. Of course a lot of other things happened but these were the first things that popped into my noggin so, I guess they’re some of the most important!
Alright people I’m gonna break it down.
Here is a shout out to all my fellow blind and blurry-eyed friends out there. Y’all know when spring rolls around and pollen is infiltrating any and everyone. Yeah, yeah allergies are awful but the worst is when our contacts get all nasty and filmed over from pollen (20/20 vision folks just try to imagine this). It is like we have to walk around in a fog all day BUT the most amazing and relieving feeling is peeling those little pollenated thingys out of your eye that night. Then the second best feeling is putting your glasses on and honestly, feeling like a new a person. I might be the only person who feels like this but can I get an “Amen” from anyone else who can sympathize with me!!
Last year for me was the process of peeling off those awful little contacts and puttin’ my four-eyes on. And let me tell ya people that feeling was 10 times more relieving in real life than it was in a silly little contact. Maybe, I am being a little vague so lets go a little deeper here, sound good?
Leaving 2015 and entering 2016 I knew I needed clarity. I needed to clear my eyes, I needed to empty my heart of the old and fill it up with the good, good (I’ll explain this more later) and I knew if I did both of these things then I really couldn’t lose. So I started a training camp for myself and the first phase of training camp was journaling. While writing this blog post I was like, “oh it would be pretty cool to go back and look at what I wrote about” but Y’ALL I had no idea how COOL it would really be. So, I just want to share my first journal writing with y’all.
The layout of each of my journal posts goes like so: I jot down what happened that day, then I read through the scripture for that day and write out the verse that really jumped out at me and then I write a little letter to the Lord. The letter can be prayer requests, thank you’s, or just like talkin’ to a bud.
Here is what my first post said (I would have taken a pic and put it in here but I wasn’t really blessed with the whole “pretty, bubbly, girl hand writing” so you wouldn’t have been able to read my chicken scratch)
1/11/15 (Yes I accidently wrote down the wrong year)
First day of Class, X-ray on my thumb, Mom says I should do a blog
John 4:14 But Whoever drinks the water I give him will never know thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
I pray Lord for self-respect, value, and confidence. I pray for Joy. I pray for Hannah (one of my best friends who had a big decision to make) and Jordan (my big brother. I pray for my Husband. I pray Lord for peace with myself.
OUR GOD IS SO AMAZING!! Reading this first journal blew me away and the more I flipped through the pages of my journal the more amazed I became.
I was gonna go in more depth in this blog post but one thing I’ve learned about us humans is that our attention span is real short and the longer something is we lose interest real quick. AND I REALLY WANT Y’ALL TO UNDERSTAND the points I am trying to make so for now resonate on how you can clear up your contacts. How can you get clarity?
P.S. No bias or anything here but journaling is so cool and amazing and I highly recommend it 11 out of 10. Seriously though y’all I am so excited for these next couple of blog posts because they’re knockin’ my socks off with wow amazing our Lord is and I know they’ll do the same to you!
