Charleston Day 3
Rise and Shine and Give God your Glory!
On day number 3 we started off with Callies Hot Little Biscuits. I would say Callie's is a must when visiting downtown Charleston. If you've done your research then you know that Callie's is extremely popular and you might need to prepare yourself to wait in line. False, yes it is popular, but I've got a loop hole for waiting in line. Go to the Callie's in the market, not many people realize that this is the same famous Callie's. I've gone several times and at most have only had to wait 5 minutes to order.
My order: The trio (Blackberry Jam, Shortcake, Cinnamon)
-I think they're all delicious.
-Order them all and then some!
My mom's order: BLT biscuit with a side of pimento cheese
-If you can have dairy...get the pimento cheese grits!
Bay's order: Bacon, egg and cheese biscuit
-And again, really good!
Location: 5 out of 5 freckles
-In the middle of the market in downtown Charleston
-Only downside, no air conditioned seating (keep reading, we have a fix for that) Atmosphere: 5 out of 5 freckles
-I really like how they've decorated their space in the market
-It feels like a little corner of home Food: 5 out of 5 freckles
-I hate when biscuits fall apart on you and these biscuits are the opposite. They soak up everything.
-One of my favorite biscuits Service: 4 out of 5 freckles
-I'm giving them a 4 out of 5 because sometimes you have an incredible waiter and then other times you have an average waiter.
-Never bad service though! Price: 4 out of 5 freckles
-I think it's a great price, especially for the high quality food you get
Alright, so our trick to eating in the air conditioning is right around the corner at a place called Bitty & Beau's. Bitty & Beau's have been featured all over the TV and is the official coffee of the Rachael Ray Show. If you get a chance please go read their story. Bitty & Beau's employees people with down syndrome. If you want an extra little spark to your morning, go to Bitty & Beau's. We ordered our coffees and sat at their bar and ate our Callie's. They also have lots of cute products to purchase.
After we were fueled up for the day we hit the famous King Street for some shopping. Look, I love King Street, but I hate shopping and in order for it to be a successful shopping trip, I've really got to be feeling it...and I wasn't. Sorrryy Bailey and sorrryyy Mama.
Our shopping for clothes ended quickly, but we started shopping for food real quick. We found ourselves at King Street cookies. In order for a cookie shop to stay in business they've got to have some darn good cookies, and they do. They have endless amount of options, they even have gluten free cookies (major score)! Also, they have a little milk bar which I think makes the entire store.
Our next food venture was Glazed doughnuts. I'm not completely sold on this place. I don't think it's a must when in Charleston. I mean the doughnuts are fine, but they aren't anything special. If you do end up finding yourself there then I recommend the apple bacon fritter.
Before hitting the road we grabbed lunch at a new spot: Uptown Social. It is way down King Street, but this means lots of parking out front. Uptown Social was opened by some friends from Boston. They completely read did an old Charleston building and gave it new life. I absolutely love the space they've created.
My order: BLT burger sliders with curly fries
-Loved it and couldn't finish it, so I took it to go
My moms order: Cheese pizza
-She really liked it and would recommend
Bay's order: Pulled pork sliders with curly fries
-She enjoyed her meal!
Location: 3 out of 5 freckles
-It is isn't conveniently located in downtown Charleston, but this side of Charleston is really building up so it could be different in 2 years. Atmosphere: 5 out of 5 freckles
-I adore what they've done with the space.
-Go check it out! Food: 4 out of 5 freckles
-I would definitely recommend and go back, but can't say its a must Service: 4 out of 5 freckles
-We had to ask for refill
-Patrick was very friendly and personable Price: 4 out of 5 freckles
-I think the prices are slightly high, but aren't outrageous
And thats a wrap friends. Our girls weekend is complete. Another great year in the books, I hope you've enjoyed following along!
