Be Still

Woohoo!! You survived the cliffhanger, congrats dude. So ya wanna know my resolution do ya? And ya wanna know why I’m doing it huh? Whelp I’m just gonna go straight into it.

I am committing (the first definition) to being still every day.

“That’s it Syd, you’re going to commit to being still? Don’t you think that’s a little vague? I mean at least pinpoint it to a time of day or something!”

Nah fam, before you start with all these questions let me explain:

I am committing to being still EVERY DAY because that’s what I struggle the most with. I am a “doer”, I’m not a big fan of relaxing and all that jazz. I am also a “stresser”, so when I get all stressed out I become even more of a doer. Which can kinda hurt because it makes my mind go in a thousand different directions. In 2017 I want to be still, I want to take time out of my day to delete the distractions and just listen.

Be still and know that I am with you                     Psalm 46:10

I don’t know about y’all but when life starts getting’ crazy I tend to lessen my time with God. Which is ironic because my goodness, how many times in the bible is God like YO if you’ll just chill and come to me I WILL HELP YOU! So that’s exactly what I am gonna do, when I start to feel the burden. I will not stress. I will not ditch my God time. I will not turn to Sweet Tea to ease my stress (okay well maybe I can sip and be still at the same time?). I will not run from my problems. I will be still. I will sit and listen. No distractions, just me and the big man.

Come to me all who are weary and burden and I will give you rest       Mathew 11:28

My advice for your new years resolution:

-If nothing is on your heart then don’t just make one up because then you won’t be fully committed to it. Then you’ll just have a dud resolution and ya aren’t gonna feel too good when it doesn’t work out.

- Pray about it. Sounds simple, yeah? Well it is! Just be like God I wanna improve. I want to be a better disciple and I want to be more like you. What can I do to better myself?

-Read the Word! It is amazing what God will uncover to you within his word. You might have read a passage 15 times before but for some reason it is just really hitting you like WOAH!! (It’s kinda an awesome feeling!)

-Make it simple and keep your focus small. It takes 3,000-5,000 “reps” to break a bad habit and word on the block is that it takes 10,000 hours or more to master a “skill”. I say this because if you are all in to this resolution then wouldn’t you want to master it and break your old bad habits!? By keeping it simple and having a small focus this increases your chances of doing that. Compared to having a whole grocery list of “must approves!"

-Lastly, don’t put a deadline on your resolution. If your goal isn’t fulfilled by 2018 that is okay, don’t just toss it and say “whelp I guess it just wasn’t for me!” Odds are that if you didn’t accomplish a goal then it either means you either used the wrong definition of “committed” or ya just need more work!!

Alright kiddos go on and enjoy your 2017, you will not get another so make it count!!
