Charlie left Athens today. It was an unexpected and pleasant surprise to have him in Athens for a week after the Sugar Bowl so I tried to soak it up. He left today and tears of excitement, nervousness, joy, and sacredness weld up in my eyes and rolled down my freckled cheeks.
Who knew so many emotions could fill one tiny teardrop? We are so grateful for the journey we are about to take and we know how much we're about to learn about each other and the "us" that is slowly becoming. I don't doubt that our time apart will only add value to our future marriage!
Now before we get too sappy, let's address the title. Charlie got invited to the NFLPA bowl game!!!!! This bowl is for seniors only and to my knowledge, it's one of three other bowls. The top tier bowl is the Senior Bowl hosted in Mobile, AL. The third bowl is similar to the NFLPA Bowl, the East-West Shrine Bowl, in St. Petersburg, FL.
The NFLPA bowl is hosted at the Rose Bowl in California. He got the unexpected invite on November 25th. Charlie was surprised he got invited, but I had a little more confidence in my man! We were both super excited and the look on his face just made my heart happy.
The NFLPA bowl game takes place on January 18 @ 7 p.m. The game will be available on the NFL network (so idk if that's an extension of ESPN or what but that's where you can view it from home).
We have two DAWGS taking part in the NFLPA game, Brian Herrien and Charlie Woerner, and it looks like they'll remain on the same team, the National Team. From what I can remember from the last time the DAWGS were in the Rose Bowl...the DAWGS travel so if you find yourself in LA on January 18 tickets are for sale.
Charlie will arrive in California on Sunday the 12th. During the week he will practice and take part in interviews with various teams. Charlie and I are obviously super new to this whole process so we don't know what else he'll be doing, but it's fun to stray away from the normal game routine and practice he's been used to.
Also, I'm flying to California...not by myself. Charlie and my parents wouldn't allow that with my very poor sense of direction (one day I'll have to learn). Anyways, my mom is coming along for the fun and we are both so excited. While we're in Cali we will get to see my cousin, Zach, who is stationed in the Navy there!! Zach was one of my best friends growing up and he's the only one in my family who hasn't crossed paths with Charlie so hopefully, they'll finally get to meet.
Needless to say...we are all very excited! The last time Charlie played in the Rose Bowl he had some of his best stats but ended up playing on a broken leg for part of the game. Here's to Charlie breaking a leg in ONLY a good luck type of way!
After the bowl game, Charlie will start training and that's what my next post will be about. Until then, I hope everyone has a great weekend and if you have a chance, help me cover Charlie in prayer! Charlie has an incredible opportunity to meet so many new people and I pray that God's light would shine through him so others can know Jesus.
